EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT

The Emergency Department is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.  It has staffing coverage 24 hours of the day.  Physicians are on call when not physically present in the building and are notified of patient arrival to the Emergency Department by the nurse who has assessed the patient.  The Emergency Department does not function on a first come, first serve basis.  Patients are always assessed and “triaged” by an experienced nurse.  Patients will be seen according to the severity of their illness.

Investigations including diagnostic services and laboratory services very often encompass part of the patient’s care while in the Emergency Department.  Teamwork is an essential component while working in Emergency.

Patient teaching is provided through the use of handouts, as well as verbal communication.  Staffing excellence is a value at the Englehart and District Hospital and skill levels are always being upgraded to increase the quality and enhance the level of care provided.
