NURSING UNIT

Patients are admitted to the hospital following assessment and diagnosis by medical staff.  If patients are in critical condition, the formation of an ICU (Intensive Care Unit) takes place complete with required technology and appropriate nursing care.  When patient needs are beyond the capacity of our mandate, or further investigation is required, patients are transferred with the escort of a nurse, or when  less serious, the accompaniment of a family member.  Values that Englehart and District Hospital believes in are partnering, collaborating, cooperating with others, and an integrated service system that is responsive to community needs.  Our goal is to provide a streamlined approach to patient care and the needs of the patients, in a cost effective manner.

There is close collaboration between Community Care Access Centre - Timiskaming and other various community services.  The provision of health teaching to patients and their families is an integral part of the nursing role.  Nurses are increasing their knowledge and skill level on an ongoing basis through participation in courses and other programs.  All Registered Nurses currently employed at Englehart and District Hospital are ACLS trained.  A large percentage of the Registered Nurses have also received training in trauma.
