WELL WOMEN’S CLINIC

This unique service began in September 1993.  It was created out of necessity through a collaborative effort between Physicians, Nursing and Administration.  From an insight through which the needs of women are highly recognized combined with a view to maximizing existing resources, the Well Women’s Clinic was born. 

The clinic specializes in the provision of performing breast exams, teaching breast self-examination, and performing pap tests.  It is available to women of all ages in the district of Timiskaming. 

An educational component consisting of teaching regarding menopause, hormone replacement therapy, and osteoporosis is included.  Information is provided regarding natural bodily changes and processes over a woman’s lifetime. 

To make an appointment, simply call Englehart and District Physicians’ Services at 544-2321.  The clinic is self-referral or from the physician.  A copy of results will be sent to your family physician if requested (example:  mammogram or pap test results). 

We value communication, therefore, patients are provided with a letter regarding results and any follow up required.  A reminder is sent to patients annually for appropriate follow up. 

The clinic has received very generous donations to maintain its viability.  Many thanks to all who have been so kind. 

The hours of operation are flexible to meet the needs of the community.  The service is provided in Englehart and Elk Lake.  In Englehart, appointments are held every second Tuesday and Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. 

The feedback received from clients who have utilized this district wide service is very positive.  The emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention is the direction health care is taking and the clinic is definitely on route.  It is a pleasure to offer this service to the people of Timiskaming.   In conjunction with the clinic we have an annual fundraiser in the form of a walk throughout the community the first Sunday in April.
